Drunk woman stumbles into stranger's house, yells

By Tyler Riggs

Leonard Teters thought it was safe to leave the doors to his Hyrum home unlocked during the night.

When he and his wife, Telma, were jolted awake Friday morning by a screaming, half-naked woman hovering over their bed, however, Teters changed his mind.

"You better lock your doors because things like that are happening now," Teters said Tuesday. "I didn't know what was going on."

It turned out that a 19-year-old woman allegedly had too much to drink at a nearby party, and after wandering off, found herself in Teters' home. She now faces several felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from the incident.

Teters, 37, said his wife started yelling at about 2 a.m. and told him to wake up because the woman was screaming profanities and death threats at the couple. Teters said he woke up and told the woman to get out of his house, which according to Teters, caused the woman to leave his bedroom.

Teters said he thought the woman had left the house, so he went outside looking for her until he heard his wife screaming inside the house. It turned out the woman was in the Teters' back yard, and as she came to the front of the house, she started chasing Leonard Teters until sheriff's deputies arrived.

"It was just totally bizarre," Teters said. "It was like something out of some nightmare movie. It was just freaky."

Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Chad Jensen said deputies arrived at the home and arrested the woman. Realizing she was intoxicated, the teen was taken to the Logan Regional Hospital where she became combative with nurses.

After being released from the hospital, the woman was booked into the Cache County Jail on a second-degree felony charge of burglary, class-B misdemeanor charges of minor in possession of alcohol, simple assault, interfering with an arresting officer, lewdness and a class-C misdemeanor charge of intoxication.
