Drunk Woman Pours Paint Thinner on Cars, Arrested, Breaks Bail in 12 Hours

By Gary Stewart, Ormskirk Advertiser

A CONVICTED arsonist has been sent to jail after taking less than 12 hours to break her bail conditions.

Marie Kelly Dalziel, 23, of no fixed abode, appeared at Chorley Magistrates' Court on July 21, and pleaded guilty to pouring paint stripper on two cars parked around the Chapel Street area of Ormskirk.

She was bailed on condition that she lived at an address in Fordcombe Road, Bellevale, Liverpool, and kept to a curfew of 8pm to 8am.

When officers called that evening she was absent. She was later arrested in a phone box outisde Ormskirk Magistrates' Court at 4am on Friday morning.

Cath McLelland, prosecuting, said: "It's alleged she has been pouring paint stripper on two motor cars outside various addresses in the early hours of the morning.

"At 4am police received information. Because of that information they saw the lady and the cars covered in paint stripper. She said she was drunk and didn't realise what she was doing.

"She was given bail with stringent conditions but was found in a phone box at four in the morning outside this court.

"The police are advising me that it was fortunate someone found her before an extremely serious offence was committed.

"She has a lengthy record, they are all arsons of motor vehicles, fortunately she was stopped before a more serious offence could was committed.

"The police are very concerned because she does not have an address and she can't be allowed to live in this area."

Sheila Lloyd, defending, said: "The offender's position today is that Kelly is unable to provide an address that she can reside at. Bail hostels are not available because of her convictions for arson and she has no family address which she is able to put before the court.

"Because of these conditions I am unable to put forward a bail application."

Chairman of the bench Sonja Øyen told Dalziel that she would be remanded at HM Prison Styall until August 15 while the probation service prepares a report.
